"Drawing has an intimacy and a fragility that I’ve been unable to find using other materials. It’s become my way of seeing the world, seeing people and myself, with an opportunity to turn it around, to let my imagination run wild and piece things and places together.
When I draw, it happens quickly. A swarm of lines and directions. I make decisions at a rapid pace, and the charcoal or the brush switches between spatiality and patterns, facial expressions and bodies. Everything is allowed to take its place if it wants to be there.
Recently, I’ve been experimenting with oil paint. Trying to find a balance between drawing and painting. The paint has a sense of playfulness. It breathes more life into wallpaper and carpets, garments and the sky. But in order to allow the image to breathe, certain areas are left untouched. The drawing conveys seriousness, tenderness, sadness and care."
